Sir Frank Markham School, Milton Keynes (Case Study No.1)
When the time came to build a new six classroom block (with toilet facilities), the MRC option offered a more cost effective answer than traditional construction.
This unit was manufactured in our factory over a two-week period and then erected on site, made watertight, equipped and ready for use in just two and a half weeks from delivery. In fact, the entire project, from laying concrete foundations to fitting the carpets, took just six weeks.
The walls were pre-finished with vinyl on plasterboard, meaning that there were no ‘wet trades’ on site, which helped speed-up the assembly of the unit considerably. Each module came with doors and double-glazed
windows, internal partitioning and lighting ready for use. The thermal insulation and advanced heating and ventilation systems comply fully with current Building Regulations – exactly the same regulations as a traditionally
built construction.
All works were carried out by MRC’s own operatives, using our own plant and equipment, and without involving
subcontractors.
The result was completion right on schedule – enabling the students to start the new term in style.
